WhatsApp will soon be adding a new feature to the app to identify fake and spam calls (both video/audio). For this, the instant messaging app has partnered with Truecaller to provide caller identification service. Nowadays, many face calls come to users on WhatsApp, that is why WhatsApp and Truecaller partnered.
According to media reports, this feature will help WhatsApp users to identify fake, spam and calls coming through the Internet.
The new feature will be available for both video and audio calls on WhatsApp. Currently, Truecaller can only identify calls that users receive through their telecom service providers.
WhatsApp and Truecaller partnered but The feature will be rolled out to all by the end of May.
Alan Mamedi, Chief Executive Officer of Truecaller, has told that this feature is currently in beta testing. This feature will be rolled out worldwide by the end of May. However, he has not given any confirmed date regarding the roll out of this feature.after the whatsapp and truecaller partnered user will have benefited a lot.
The number of telemarketing and spam calls is increasing continuously.
According to Truecaller’s 2021 report, the number of telemarketing and spam calls is continuously increasing in other countries including India. Mobile users here receive about 17 spam calls on an average every month.
Earlier this year, the telecom regulator directed Airtel, Reliance Jio and Vodafone-Idea to block telemarketing calls using artificial intelligence (AI). Truecaller has told that it is in talks with telecom operators to start such a service.
India is a big market for WhatsApp and Truecaller
WhatsApp is the most widely used messaging platform in India with over 400 million users. At the same time, India is also the biggest market for Truecaller. Truecaller has 350 million users worldwide, of which India is the largest market with 250 million users. After the partnership of WhatsApp and Truecaller, the number of users in India will be even more.
